Kathleen Rea teaches Contact Dance Improvisation through the lens of the Axis Syllabus; a collection of anatomical attributes and ways of moving that are basically safe and energy conservative. The Axis Syllabus provides accessible information on body alignment and movement practices using physics, anatomy and relevant scientific data from various fields, as a guide. Spiral and wave-like movements can be used used to create kinetic energy and minimize excess tension.
We will explore how waves of kinetic energy can travel through the body and “motor” our movements, and those of others, travelling through and in our bodies in a delightful and enlivening manner. Ample time for labbing and jamming will allow us to integrate skills, intention and new information. Functional and integrated movement becomes the ground from which physical and emotional explorations can grow.
