The Wild Rumpus Circus is honored to be hosting BREAD AND PUPPET as part of a rare national tour! Bread and Puppet’s iconic performances feature diverse puppetry and street theater styles to tell vital stories of the moment.
Through the lens of a rehearsal process, participants in the Puppetry in Performance Workshop will be introduced to Bread and Puppet’s styles and methods. The workshop culminates with participants performing alongside Bread and Puppet company members in “The Beginning After the End of Humanity Circus.” No prior experience in theater or puppetry required. Time commitment: 3-hour workshop + dress rehearsal if possible (the more time, the deeper participation that will be possible).
Participants are able to watch the parts of the circus they are not in.
If possible, workshop participants should bring an all-white (and long sleeve) outfit to perform in
WHEN: Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 21, 1:00-3:00 p.m. (Dress Rehearsal) and 4:30-6:30 p.m. (Performance) WHERE: The Rumpus Room, 15 Brodhead St. and outdoors in downtown Mazomanie, WI (Performing Arts Pavilion) COST: Workshop is on a sliding scale ($25-50 suggested), pay at the door. All proceeds go directly to Bread and Puppet, to support their fall tour. NOTE: We are currently running a GoFundMe campaign to support Bread and Puppet’s workshop and performance fees. Bread and Puppet Theater is an internationally celebrated company that champions a visually rich, street-theater brand of performance art filled with music, dance and slapstick. Believing that theater is a basic necessity like bread, the company frequently brings its work to the streets for those who may not otherwise go to the theater. Its shows are political and spectacular, with puppets often on stilts, wearing huge masks with expressive faces, singing, dancing and playing music.
