A little more about Jen: I recognize the need for physical activity but hate going to the gym. Every couple of years I would get myself motivated and purchase a gym membership. Every time, my money was wasted. The thought of being tied to a treadmill for 30 minutes was not the type of experience I longed for. I was introduced to hooping at an outdoor party two years ago. The girl was fit, happy, and having fun. I fell in love with hoop dance. With two young children, a full time job, and my pottery business, it was hard to find time to hoop. I started slowly, teaching myself the basics. As I became more confident with each new technique, it allowed me to release from technique and lose myself in the dance. Anyone who knows me, knows I love to dance. I expected hooping to become an amazing outlet for physical activity. What I didn’t expect is the release of my thoughts and mind to the hoop. When I am hooping, everything else goes away and I am lost in the circle. The circle belongs to me and I control it. In a world where we often feel a lack of control, it is powerful to take it back. If only for a dance. The Driftless Hooping classes have been developed to bring this experience to others in the community.
