Our next Winter Circus production will take place on Feb. 8 and 9, 2020, at the Goodman Community Center! We will spend fifteen weeks creating and polishing original circus acts: aerial, stilts, physical comedy, theater, juggling, acrobatics and more! We tend to use a collaborative format that allows participants to learn about choreography, creative process and performance skills as they combine ideas with mentorship and guidance from professionals in the field. Proceeds will benefit our Wild Rumpus Circus Scholarship fund!
Who: Kids (10 and up) through adults, with prior wild rumpus circus experience (min. 2 weeks of circus camp or two prior weekly class sessions), and consent of directors.
When: Our organizational meeting for all interested performers will be SUNDAY OCTOBER 6, from 5:15-6:45 p.m.
After that, rehearsal blocks will be as follows:
- SUNDAYS Oct. 13-Feb. 2: 5-6:15: Aerial, Acrobatics and/or stilts group 1; 6:15-7:30 Aerial Acrobatics and/or stilts group 2 (Goodman Community Center)
- WEDNESDAYS Oct. 9-Feb. 5 4-5 p.m.: Tight wire (at Madison Circus Space); 6:45-8:15 p.m.: Clowns, Jugglers, possibly Aerialists (at Goodman Community Center)
We will hold TWO WEEKS of OPEN REHEARSALS (Oct. 9-23), where participants can drop in for any of the rehearsals/disciplines they might be interested in. These rehearsals will focus on skills, but a basic experience level with any of the previously mentioned disciplines is required. After Oct. 23, we will finalize our casting and acts based on rehearsal availability, skills and interests.
There will be no rehearsals: Nov. 24 or 27, December 22, 25, 29 or Jan 1. Dress rehearsal will be Friday evening, 2/7, and there will be matinee and evening performances at 2 and 7 p.m. on 2/8, and a matinee performance 2 p.m. on 2/9. Participants must be available for all tech/performance call times, and a minimum of ten (out of twelve scheduled) weekly rehearsals between Oct. 23 and Feb. 5.
First-year performers are usually cast into one act or group, returning performers might be cast into more than one act. Plan for one rehearsal/week for each act the performer is cast into, and when you register, please mention in the notes field which rehearsal blocks will and will not work for you.
