“Art is a touchpoint and a survival strategy in this troubled world. Being artists, how do we belong?” -Sandra Vincent
Gain a better understanding of yourself as an artist while exploring and deepening your body-mind connection. Using the tools of Anna Halprin’s Life/Art Process®, we will delve into the multimodal expressive arts of dance, drawing, writing, and voice as interrelated practices, with live accompaniment by musician Benjamin Francart. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a danced self-portrait, supported and witnessed by their peers.
From Tamalpa work, we’ll use psycho-kinetic intermodal practices and body-parts as powerful tools to connect with different layers of our being. We’ll start each morning with Anna Halprin’s Movement Ritual, inviting us into a deep listening and tuning into ourselves. Through Authentic Movement we will explore what it is to connect with ourselves under the benevolent eye of the beholder, practicing the role of the witness in our creative processes. Using ALMA practices, we will weave together what we have explored to create embodied self-portrait performances. Our intention is to use the self-portrait to empower the artists we are through sharing our art. Whatever your artistic practice, we will access this material through the dancing body. Coming from our experiential playground, gathering our drawings and our writings, improvising and scoring, we foster embodied ways to manifest as artists in this world.
Belgian choreographer, performer, and teacher Sandra Vincent has studied dance all her life. She maintains her studio in Brussels, where she conducts research in dance, voice, and performance. She has taught workshops in her research and creative process in Belgium and abroad for over 20 years. Sandra is a certified practitioner of Anna Halprin’s Life/Art Process® through the Tamalpa Institute in California. In 2017, she launched ALMA, an extended program of artistic development that cultivates body and voice practices. She is passionate about improvisation, instant composition, collective intelligence, and about the intimate relationship between each person’s unique ability to create and the expression of their personal freedom.
