This, our 20th season of circus camps, will be another rather different one. Last year, we made some changes to comply with specific guidance from state and county departments of public health for summer camps and day care providers. Our plans for 2021 are as follows. They are subject to change, based on state and county recommendations and our own experiences over the coming months.
- We will limit enrollment to a maximum of 12 campers for Spring Break camp, and 20-24 campers for all summer camps.
- If necessary to ensure physical distancing, we will rent additional classroom space.
- We will expect that any camper who has a fever, or exhibits any other symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness, will not come to camp until they are symptom-free for at least 72 hours.
- We will use a touchless infrared thermometer to monitor campers for fever, and will isolate and send them home if fever is reported or detected. We will also monitor campers closely for other symptoms.
- We will spend as much time as possible outdoors. Mazomanie is a wonderful place for this, with parks, trails and green spaces all within walking distance. The village recently built an outdoor, covered stage, and we plan to use it a lot!
- We will minimize the sharing of equipment. Each camper will have their own distinct set of juggling props to work with, and equipment will be shared only with clean hands and disinfection protocols.
- We will not be using Jacob’s theatrical masks for camper use, and we WILL be using face-covering masks in compliance with county and state-wide mandates, currently indoors at all times and outside whenever physical distancing is not an option (for example, when spotting new stilt walkers).
- We will keep a distance of <6 feet between all group members whenever possible.
- We will practice thorough and frequent hand washing
- We will clean and disinfect all high-touch surfaces multiple times/day, and we will thoroughly clean all indoor spaces daily.
- We will not be having in-person end-of-camp performances indoors, but depending on weather and group size, we MAY have short outdoor parades and performances at the close of camp. We will also attempt to share more of the daily life at camp via email and text.
- WE WILL make the best of this strange, difficult situation, and find as many ways as we can to incorporate circus, creativity, togetherness, kindness, cooperation and laughter into our days.
